Activities

The staff of the Clinical Pharmacology Unit is associated to the University of Verona (Department of Medicine and Public Health - Section of Pharmacology). The director is prof. Giampaolo Velo, Professor  of Pharmacology. The staff collaborate also with the Verona Hospital (Azienda Ospedaliera di Verona) with the following activities: - collection of the reports of adverse drug reactions from the physicians of the Verona Hospital - consultant functions for the physicians on efficacy and adverse drug reactions The Clinical Pharmacology Unit, following a contract with the Veneto Region act as a Regional Centre on Pharmacovigilance, collecting and analyzing all the spontaneous reporting form of the region since 1988. Within this activity the Unit collaborate with other italian nothern regions (Lombardia, Emilia Romagna, Sicilia and Provincia Autonoma di Trento), grouping all the reports in a unique database. These regions have created the Interregional Group of Pharmacovigilance (GIF). In the GIF website periodic reports on the data from spontaneous reporting are available (only in italian). The data are also regularly transmitted to the WHO Uppsala Monitoring Centre, in Uppsala, Sweden. Clinical Pharmacology Unit is WHO  Reference Centre For Education and Communication in Drug Monitoring. Within the activities in the region the Unit publish a bulletin, FOCUS, which can be downloaded in this site.

Furthermore other studies in the field of pharmacovigilance are regularly organized.
